Ordinary

It's FRIDAY!!  Time for Five Minute Friday!!!

Want to join me in the fun of just writing and not worrying if it’s just right (or on time) or not?
    1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
    2. Link back to The Gypsy Mama and invite others to join in.
    3. Go all out encouraging the writer who linked up before you.
OK, are you ready? Give me your best five minutes:

On ordinary…

START

What comes to your mind when you think ORDINARY? It's not usually something that people strive for.  I have been feeling very ordinary lately... nothing extraordinary around here. But maybe, just maybe ORDINARY is okay.  I am working on being content with ordinary... an ordinary blog, an ordinary life, ordinary kids, ordinary marriage, ordinary days.

Mostly, it's the ordinary blog I have been focused on. I love blogging, but I get easily discouraged when there aren't comments and praise and encouragement... even though I tell myself time and time again that I am not doing it for others (but maybe I am a little). I myself am an ordinary blog stalker... I read a lot but don't take the time to comment. I am going to work on that.  So for now, an ordinary blog is okay, although I would like to find a niche.  Am I a parenting blog? a crafts blog? a recipe blog? a PR and giveaway blog? a Spiritual encouragement blot?  or am I all of these things?  Not doing one niche extraordinarily... just ordinary posts about ordinary things in my ordinary life.

So what's your thoughts on ordinary?  Good or bad?

STOP

  1. I too have an ordinary blog ... and an ordinary life. I'm finding that I am okay with that too. :) I'm learning to just be content in the little things - later, we'll probably realize they were indeed BIG things!

  2. Julie,

I relate to your comments about your blog, loving to blog, wanting to fill a niche, and yes, I also am a "blog stalker". :) I also love comments, but do not comment on many blogs.

Thank you for reminding me that I am not the only one who likes comments, I am going to work on "commenting" more.

  4. I hear you, Julie! I think a lot of us bloggers feel the same way, and I love that you were so honest about it! Great 5 minutes!

PS..read this quote in an email today. It inspired me & your post brought it back to mind! Enjoy :)

    Ira Glass:

“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”

  5. I know, right? I never blog on Spark, cause I get mad when nobody comments. It makes me mad that I am not a great writer that makes everyone want to comment. =)
