happy anniversary to me

I did not intentionally wait for today to do this post... my week just got away from me! :) anyway this past week at Women Living Well, the focus was on remembering our wedding day, so I pulled out my scrapbook and took pictures of pictures to post, thought about my sweetie a lot and remembered all the fun we had. It was a very simple day, no stress at all... I was very nervous but very excited!!!

This was the most memorable part...

FOUR WEEKS before the wedding, and here is the threshold into the auditorium... we were in the middle of an expansion project!!

but the wedding went off without a hitch!! (or was there a hitch...we did get hitched! )

my bouquet, was ONE red rose amongst daisies (which happen to be my favorite)... when we were dating Wes sent me flowers and the card said... "In this world of daisies, You're a Rose"

Our lovely cake

the very first scrapbook page I ever did

and it's not a wedding without a kiss

So on this day, 12 years later, I remember our sweet wedding day!!! Happy Anniversary, Wesley!!

sweet shot tuesday

Just came across Sweet Shot Tuesday via Wired Whimsy, and because her beautiful jewelry is the prize to one of the participants, I decided to enter!!

and what could be sweeter then siblings getting along so sweetly?

Sunday sketch week4

So I totally missed this Sunday Sketch.

from Handstamped from the Heart... but I like the idea and I was working on it in steps. I finally finished it on (the following)Sunday, but by then a new sketch was up and I had missed the linky... Oh well!!

I have TONS of different kinds of paper, so the hard part was deciding on a theme... I am definitely going to make this card again with some of my other papers. I confess, this time I picked paper I didn't like and that I wanted to get rid of use up!!

Mostly, I agonized over what sentiment to use... so many to choose from and I didn't like any of them, they were all smaller than I wanted. So I made a few of each...

Here's the other one!

I can NOT stamp cards, take pictures, and create a post in time to make the links on some of these things, but I am loving the ideas, challenges, and inspirations for my card making... now if only I had a "studio" to work in!!!

switching to blogger

I have no idea what I am doing... just considering the switch to blogger. I hate change and I hate new things, but nobody uses Xanga anymore, so I feel the need to switch. I just wonder is there anyway to transfer my old posts to this blog??!?! anyone, anyone?

I guess I will just have to play around with it! Not exactly an earth shattering first post, but here it is!

Repitition

Repetition

Another card making challenge from 365 Cards ~to use repetition in your card... 3 of the same word, 3 of the same image!!

I have a stamp set from Stampendous that I was looking forward to using, and knew it would be perfect for this challenge! I LOVE clear stamps and the versatility they bring... the ability to see what I am stamping and what I have already stamped! it makes it so much easier to line stuff up, especially if you are trying to REPEAT a word! :)

Here's a close up of my repeated sentiment!!

Nothing like some extra sunshine to make us celebrate, so that was my repeated image!!

I used a new technique (called Rock and Roll Stamping) from Close to my Heart that I thought worked perfectly for this sunshine (bought from the $1 spot at Target!!)

It is a little too simple for my taste, but I also like it... hopefully someone else will, too!!

completing him -dating years

WARNING: Bad quality photos ahead!! :) My scanner wasn't working and glossy photos from the 90's don't lend themselves well to pictures of pictures! :) All the pictures are in a scrapbook, too, so that brought an additional challenge!

Here is our dating story for the "Completing Him Challenge" at Women Living Well!
Wow, where to begin... how much do I share? we don't want this to be a mile long! :)

I was a sophomore in college when we met (he was new--transferred in his second year). We met through a friend of mine that was in his dorm. We had seen each other around campus a few times and at a Jars of Clay concert. I thought he was HOT! (I still think he is HOT!) so our mutual friend (Grant) said that if I would make him cookies, he would get me a date with Wes. I had to do a "hospitality project" for a Ministry in Marriage and Motherhood class I was taking (even though I wasn't dating anyone...I had been when I registered for the class last spring). So I made cookies for Wes and Grant! :)

On a side note, he makes the chocolate chip cookies now... and they are DELICIOUS!!!

We did go on a date shortly after and have been together ever since! Life consisted of lots of college dating, out for 10 cent wing nights, soccer games, school banquets, runs to Walmart, area parks, etc.

Winter Banquet '95

Spring Banquet '96

and then I graduated (I just did an Associates Degree)

and thus began our long distance relationship :( I would not recommend it, or I would do it differently! We only talked once a week (money and all...no cellphones) although we did write each other a lot!! He also came and visited me as much as possible, and I visited him occasionally, too

Niagara Falls after graduation

I went SIX MONTHS without pictures in my scrapbook (did we seriously go that long without seeing each other????)

anyway, another year later, I visited him Labor Day weekend... another visit to our favorite park

and after we got engaged, one more college banquet

It was fun to pull out the scrapbook and reminisce a little... (although, buried in my closet it was dusty, possibly a little moldy!) :( I didn't take the time to dig out the letters because that would have meant totally unpacking my closet, and now I am afraid of what other moldy things I am going to find (BUNNY TRAIL--please pray that God would provide us a larger home SOOONNNN!!!)

I would say 2 things we did that got us through was lots of dates while we were together, and hand written notes while we were apart... in the craziness of life, with 4 young kids, the dates are few and far between!! I have tried writing, but it takes EFFORT! Marriage takes effort, so I want to work on less computer time (I failed that one today) and more communication with Wes, whether through notes, phone calls, texts, emails, or coffee dates after the kids are in bed!!

I am going to leave the scrapbook out, so we can go through it together some time this week! thanks to Courtney for the reminder to TREASURE HIM THIS WEEK!!!

completing him summer challenge

I have been following Women Living Well blog for sometime now. LOTS of good information, encouragement and biblical teaching on homemaking, being a wife, etc!! When she first mentioned the summer challenge, I thought, "Oh that sounds interesting, I would like that, I probably won't be able to do it, etc. etc" Some how I missed the first post to get us started this summer, but when I previewed the summer schedule, I thought "maybe I could do that... it would definitely be worth a try", so here goes...

I may not remember to post on Mondays, but hopefully I will do each "assignment" in the right week! :) Here is her video to start off the summer!

OLW6 Overlapping

Well, this was my first attempt at a "Simplicity One Layer Wednesday" challenge. and I procrastinated until Tuesday night... this week was to use an overlapped image with a sentiment! I have never done that before and wasn't sure I was going to like it. I loved all the other entries, so I gave it a go. but I did a mini-card!

Here is my submission.

A mini 2.5 square card for thank yous... might add a little note to the sales I make in my Artfire store!
