Five Minute Friday: Again

Life is flying by! I can't believe it's Friday already! and that January 2013 is almost over!! In the busyness of life this semester (I'm taking 2 classes with lots of writing and reading), in addition to keeping clean clothes in my kids' drawers, making sure everyone gets fed and keeping the dirt to a minimum, my blogging is on the back burner.

I totally missed Five Minute Friday last week... It's not that I didn't write! I did take 5 minutes to write, but I never had a chance to type it into the computer and post it... seriously, my weekend was that busy!! :)  But I'm making every effort to join Five Minute Friday this weekend.  You know the deal...

from Lisa-Jo's blog,

Five Minute FridayWe write for five minutes flat. All on the same prompt that I post here at 1 minute past midnight EST every Friday. And we connect on Twitter with the hashtag #FiveMinuteFriday
No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation.
Unscripted. Unedited. Real.
It started because I’d been thinking about writing and how often our perfectionism gets in the way of our words. And I figured, why not take 5 minutes and see what comes out: not a perfect post, not a profound post, just five minutes of focused writing.

Five Minute Friday Prompt:  Again

It’s here again…
The indescribable feelings of brown and black and gray
The weight of a heavy white
The crushing of dark, dark brown
The cloudiness of gray
The emptiness of black

I long for the rainbow of joy
The bursting of sunshine yellow
The calmness of silky green
The light of a brilliant sky blue

Then the crush and a burst of anger
Shouting in words of red
Explosions of fiery orange

And a frustration of “not again?”

And then I remember
The brown of the Cross
The red of the Blood

And I’m washed white as snow again.

STOP

I combined my Creative Writing homework of imagery poetry with the prompt today...  I edited the version that I submitted for class, just a few additions, polishing, but not much. This is the original, because I'm trying to keep things real here with just Five Minutes.

Writing Wednesdays: Poetry

My blog has been quiet this week... No time to edit my thoughts, write things pretty, find pictures to go along with it, and share it all with you!  I'm discouraged just a little bit.

Just for a miscellaneous update... I'm still working my way through Frankenstein for my Brit Lit class (and actually liking it) Did you know that "Frankenstein" is not the monster?  ... He was the creator of the monster! and did you know the author of this book was NINETEEN when she wrote it!?!?!

I had a way too short coffee date with Donna... one of my Allume friends. She's such an encouragement. I really appreciate all the people I got to meet at Allume last year... and I really want to go again this year and am now accepting donations to my Allume fund! :)

MY BABY turned five this weekend and I was very busy celebrating her, celebrating with her and hosting a Dora birthday party for her! She is PRICELESS!!!

But the main reason for this post is:
I said I wanted to share some writings with you from my Creative Writing class and this week is Poetry! I had lots of fun with this one, so I'm sharing it with you! I hope you like it.

Foggy Personality

Little wisps moving here and there,
They weave themselves through branches bare.
Light and airy, floating ‘round
It dances to and from the ground.
     Delicate fog

Quickly moving across the field,
Not even the tree line makes it yield.
Lighter first, then filling in,
The neighbor’s house is falling dim.
     Rolling fog

Settled in the valley low
Patches of clouds row upon row,
Mixed with fields, and trees of green,
Makes an artist’s painting scene.
     Beautiful fog

Looking through the window frame,
My backyard always looks the same.
The air turns heavy, wet, and cold.
The scenery changes, dark and bold.
     Heavy fog

Tree branches scraping in the wind,
Sight obscured, my heart skips within.
I take two steps, maybe three at most,
Though nothing’s moving, I feel ghosts.
     Ominous fog

Driving up the mountain steep,
The air so thick, I cannot see.
My fists are clenched tight to the wheel,
I’m gonna die for sure, I feel.
     Strangling fog

The windowpanes are fully white.
Inside the fire is burning bright.
All tucked in tight, no place to go,
A heavy blanket on my home.
     Comforting fog

There are a few lines that I don't like, so it still needs some work... suggestions welcome!

Have you ever written poetry?

Photography Decor (& a Poem)

I've always wanted to create a sign using Photography Letters.. and being that it is Photography Week at CSI Project, it gave me the push to do something I've been thinking about for a long time ... and like I said last week, I involved my kids.

Visit thecsiproject.com
We did a little bit of experimenting and here are the three results. Now to decide which group to actually print and place in the frames for my fall mantle!! :)

We started with sticks and the kids took turns making letters (hey, maybe I could homeschool, haha)! The kids really enjoyed this participation and started making all sorts of letters, not just the ones I needed! So it was lots of fun!

Then we moved to "people" letters (can you read it?)  This one was a little more challenging, apparently the grass was a little prickly, but they still had lots of fun!!

Then I did a little bit more of what I was thinking and a few of them came with me and helped me out. This was walking all over our property and it was starting to get hot... but I still had some help making the U and finding more letters!
our picnic table, rocks on the driveway, more sticks, our swing, leaves, and the barn door...

And I wrote a poem to go with it:

Apple picking, apple cider, apple pies
Uniforms coming out... for school, for football
Trees shedding leaves, piles for jumping
Under the setting sun: bonfires, sweatshirts, S'mores
Mugs full of hot cocoa, bowls full of soup
Nights cooler, clear; first frost is coming.

What's your favorite thing about Autumn?

Amazing little girls

Amazing

I don't tell you often enough
and sometimes my actions say otherwise
But I think, NO I know,  you are Amazing!

You are Six, almost seven
and your little body is full of personality
I don't always understand you
But I know God created you
You are Amazing

Your heart is tender
You're so full of life
You've never met a stranger
and you always have a smile
You are Amazing

You are my Five year old
you get lost in the shuffle
You pull away,
then you run close
Unsure of what you want
You are Amazing

We are so much alike,
You and I!
which is why we make each other cry
One day at a time, we will figure this out
and be best of friends when you become an adult
You are Amazing

My sweet little four year old
when did you grow up?
My baby has more wisdom than me some days
You are Amazing

The last in line, you are spoiled a bit
But your sparkling eyes and full smile make it easy to do
So quick to help out, you're fun to be around
and always full of thanks to those who help you.
You are Amazing

Three little girls, God has entrusted to me
May I always see you as God sees you... and me
You are Amazing!

Today's Challenge for #betterwriter was:  Write an excerpt in verse and not prose.
#BetterWriter

I also wanted to write for my girls, to let them know that they are ALREADY AMAZING... and that's not going to change. This is part of Bloom Book Club which is beginning at the end of the month, check it out!!

Growing Together

 Growing Together
author unknown
Once upon a time there was a little grape stem
She was so glad to be alive.
She drank water and minerals from the soil and grew and grew.
She was young and strong and could manage quite well...
All by Herself

But the wind was cruel, the rain was harsh,
And the snow was not one bit understanding.
The little grape stem experienced pain.
She drooped, weak and suffering.
"It would be so easy to stop trying to grow,
to stop trying to live," thought the little stem.
She felt poorly.

The winter was long, and she was weary.
But then the little stem heard a voice.
It was another grape stem calling out to her...
"Here, reach out, hang on to me."

But the little stem hesitated.
What would this mean? she wondered.
For you see, the little stem had always managed quite well...
All by herself.

Then ever so cautiously, she reached out toward the other grape stem,
"See, I can help you," it said.
"Just wind your tendrils about me, and I will help you lift your head."
And the little stem trusted.

Suddenly, she could stand straight again.
The wind came...and the rain...and the snow.
But when it came, the little stem was clinging to many other stems.

And although the stems were swayed by the wind,
And frozen by the snow,
They stood strongly united to each other
And in their quiet strength,
they could smile and grow
One day, the little stem said,
"Here, hang on... I will help you
And another stem reached up to the little grape stem.

And together, all stems grew...Leaves budded ... flowers bloomed ...
And finally the grapes formed....And the grapes fed many.

just a little poem I found... somewhere! I have no idea were, but I still wanted to share it with you!
